Popular and Cult Classic Manga Titles
As someone who grew up in rural America, I had very little access to anime and manga and related things. It was hard to get a hold of outside of watching dubbed anime on 4Kids and volumes of manga from Borders (yeah remember those?) and Scholastic Book Fairs that I’ve never seen since. Point is, I have very fond memories of watching episodes of anime in parts on YouTube. That’s basically how I had to watch things. And that’s how I came across Shugo Chara!
We are celebrating Shugo Chara’s 20th anniversary with two new volumes! The first is a beautiful new edition of the original series. The full set is already entirely out in Japan as I started collecting them a couple years ago, but still I’m really happy that a series that was and still kind of is pretty niche gets translated and published in English!
Our second release is volume one of a new sequel called Shugo Chara! Jewel Joker. This is a continuation of the original series and continues to follow Amu and her adventure at a new school. The cover for this is so pretty and I am so excited to be back in this world and with magical girls! Ugh yes please.
Magical girls have always been my thing and I still adore a good transformation sequence. I always loved the concept of Shugo Chara and felt it was a pretty good message for kids. And myself currently. We lose ourselves when we are not accepting and honest about who we are inside. By embracing our true selves, we can help those around us and allow them to shine too.
I’m really glad this series exists and continues to be loved. It is something I find comfort in, and I’m hoping to continue sharing the love of this series with these new releases!
